Sister Catherine Talarico

Sister Catherine Talarico was born in Des Moines, Iowa. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary in 1957 and made final profession in 1963.
Sr. Catherine received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Marycrest College. She began her first career as a teacher. Her ministry took her to St. Mary School in Albia, Lourdes Memorial in Bettendorf, St. Austin in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sacred Heart in West Des Moines, St. Mary in Ottumwa. She also served in Des Moines at St. Theresa and St. Prius X . Following the directives of the Second Vatican Council to minister to adults, Sr. Catherine pursued her second ministry career serving as pastoral minister in Assumption Parish in Granger , and St. Mary of Nazareth Parish in Des Moines . Her third ministerial call came to work with those with housing issues as well as mental health/substance abuse issues at Anawim Housing as the Shelter Plus Care Director. Sr. Catherine ministered at the Broadlawns PATH program as a holistic health coordinator until retirement. Currently she lives in Des Moines where she volunteers for homeless veterans and women at Iowa Correctional Institution for Women as well as involvement with other justice issues.
