Sister Mary Vincent (Mary) Hayes
Sister Mary Vincent, a twin and one of 12 children, was born in Kerry, Ireland and educated by Mercy Sisters. She worked as an assistant in a small grocery and bar owned by a friend of the Hayes family in Ireland.
When she was 29-years-old, she joined the Irish women who came as missionaries to Great Falls, Montana upon the invitation of Mother Mary Francis Mangan.
For 35 years she served as cook and housekeeper. She came to Iowa gracefully for 12 years of retirement.
She was a woman of prayer and humor. A niece is a member of the Sisters of Mercy in Ireland.
