Congregation of the Humility of Mary Celebrates the Next Step
in Jennifer Hager's Journey towards Vowed Membership

The Congregation of the Humility of Mary (CHM) is delighted to announce a significant milestone in the journey of Jennifer Hager as she embarks on the second phase, known as the novitiate, of the initial formation process for vowed membership within the CHM community. A ceremony will be held on October 12 at 11 a.m. at Humility of Mary Center in Davenport, Iowa, marking the transition from the affiliate phase to the novitiate phase for Hager, a resident of Davenport.

The initial formation process, integral to the development of self and the relationship with God and others, is a journey that includes a deep study of the reality and mystery of religious life. Within this process, the affiliate and novitiate phases are pivotal in deepening the understanding of the call to religious life, specifically within the CHM community. These phases also provide a unique opportunity for individuals to integrate into the Congregation's spirit and assess their readiness for a life dedicated to religious service.

The novitiate phase places a significant emphasis on spiritual development. During the first year in the novitiate, Hager will engage in a program of study, prayer, reflection, and a diverse range of encounters, all designed to prepare her for full membership in the CHM community. This phase will involve volunteer work related to social justice and environmental care, both core priorities of the CHM.

During her time as a novice, Hager will live in community, sharing experiences that will allow her to learn from the wisdom of those who have shared the CHM journey and, in turn, share her personal history with them. The novitiate year will be a period of immersion in the CHM community's spirit and goals.

While the initial formation process involves at least three years before the profession of vows, integration and renewal is a lifelong commitment.
